Liturgical Ministries

Altar Servers

• Assist Priest and Deacon throughout the Mass
• Help the entire community celebrate the liturgy
• Integral to the celebration of the Mass
  (Saturday/Sunday, weekdays, and funerals)
• Attend to the action and flow of the Mass
• Can be students (grade 3 and up) or adults
• Are trained and prepared by the Priest or other parish leader

Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion (EMHC)

• Distribute Communion to handicapped parishioners
• Distribute Communion to 1/2 of the church
  (when no Deacon present)

Greeters

• Greet arriving parishioners
• Obtain gift bearers
• Distribute bulletins after mass

Readers – Lectors

• Read announcements prior to mass
• Read 1^st and/or 2^nd Readings
• Read the Prayers of the Faithful – Petitions
  (when no Deacon present)

Sacristans

• Prepares worship space for liturgies
• Assures that all necessary items are in place for the liturgy
• Handles Hosts and liturgical linens
• Cleans and purifies holy vessels
• Attentive to the needs of the priest and the community

Ushers

• Assist in seating as required
• Direct the passing of baskets
• Direct the procession of gifts
• Direct the communion procession
• Distribute bulletins after mass
